Ellen's Sewing Passion

Lovely memories from Summer-times 🌞 Grandma' always need a helping hand making waffles! I made a summerdress for this sweet girl, but it was not easy to take photos  because she was running away, but we had a lot of Fun! 😄 "Karius & Baktus" is a novel by a Norwegian author, Thorbjørn Egner. The pattern is from a magazine I bought in Holland that is called "Knippie" for kids. The knotted bow at the back of the neck is a great little detail.  

I love Benetton clothes because they are both colorful and good quality. I have saved the cotton jacket with stripes for a long time sice I like it so much, and I knew I was going to upcycle it some day. The soft merino wool sweater from my husband is turned with the wrong side out  since it had many bumps. I made two pleats in front and found a bit of grean jersey in my stash from  my Vintage Jacket . I made pockets for the skirt and a little piping at the pocket lines. I have used the sleeves from the same sweater as well, and gather them at the shoulders.    

I made some new outfits for this lovely girl for her birthday 🎈🎈🎈 She knows exactly what she likes to wear, and mostly she pics out the fabric for her self. I made tights to match the top, and this is on the picture below. Both garmets are made of patterns from Ottobre Kids. These patterns are easy to draw, and fits very well.  

I have made this pattern once before, but then I used printed fabric with lots of colors. This time I wanted to try it with a plain color. Then the gathering will be more visible. All the pieces are cut out and they looks a bit weird before sewing them together.   I started with the facing to the left side of the top, and then the gathering at the shoulder. Then I gather both the side seams of the front and back part of the dress. I like to wear my Blazer together with the dress! BurdaStyle #110 06/2013  

I wanted to give this pattern a new try, and decided to use a plain fabric. The gathering looks better on a plain fabric than a colorful fabric, that's my opinion.. You can see the different from the first top with stars, even though it's more cheering. Anyway, I think it's a great pattern! I will suggest to use viscose jersey, it's a little softer than cotton jersey,  and the color will stay better after washing several times.  The pattern looks very odd, but with the gathering it change a lot!    BurdaStyle #122 01/2014 This is the first top I made of the same pattern :)   

These two colors are fabulous together! The checked jacket was a bit short for me, but anyway I thought it would be nice as a skirt :) The wool dress was a little short too, but was a perferct match for the jacket. I started with the top of the dress. I wanted to make puffed sleeves, so I found a BurdaStyle pattern that I like. I cut the sleeves out of the back-panel of the long jacket, made the pleats for the shoulders, and gathered the short sleeves to match the narrow checked sleeves.   I decided to make pockets and cut the pockets out of the same long blue jacket. The short sleeve-hem of the red dress was great to use as pocket opening. Since I turned the jacket back-forward the buttons were at the back of the skirt. I had to sew another piese to cover the neck-line.  The hem of the jacket was perfect to use for the waist-line.
