50's Cocktail Dress!

When I first saw this dress in the BurdaStyle magazine for February,
I knew I wanted to make one!

The upper part is the most interesting with the dress
and it reminds me of one I made when I attend the origami course.

The darts are not stitched together, but folded in place,
and I also fold the other pleats on to of the other.

The darts are stitched for the back parts.

I cut the lining for the upper part,

and fold- and stitched the darts.

The shoulder seams are stitched together and I stitched around the neck,
and then close to the seam.

Then I do the same with the arm holes before stitched the side seams together.

The pleats for the skirt is layed in the right direction and stitched to the waist.

Then I sew the side pockets in side-seams.

I made the belt for the dress as well.

I had to shorten the skirt by 10 cm since I had only 2 meter of the linen fabric.

I have used an invisible zipper at the back.

  1. Thanks for showing the tucks on the front, I was having a hard time trying to figure it all out. You look lovely in your red dress. Where are you? So picturesque! Becky B.
